These Commissions, a series of vases made by hammering sheets of copper, are inspired by brutalist architecture. A sensation of light is amplified in the texture, and this is created by an Italian marble surface that augments the reflections from the containers.
Brutalism’s influence can be seen most clearly in the sharp edges and the defined contour on each of the vases. The imperfection of craftsmanship is made evident in this piece, allowing it to be admired as a handmade item.
The result is a set of contemplative order; reflecting the craft and therefore able to speak to the viewer about the technique applied for their execution.
CarmWorks creates handmade furniture influenced by the observation in nature & inspired by three simple realities: nothing last, nothing is complete and nothing is perfect.
